As U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) urges the president-elect "to heed the views of progressives," protests continue in cities across the U.S. on Saturday, with participants driven by "outrage and fear" over Donald Trump's electoral victory.

Describing the continued demonstrations, the New York Times writes that "a national resistance among liberal activists and others who say they do not support his presidency is rising in response to the election in a way not seen in modern presidential history." They also, as Common Dreams reported, "continue amid a reported increase of abuse and assaults against Muslims, people of color, immigrants, women and girls, and the LGBTQ community, among other minorities."

"On Friday night," the Washington Post reports, "people marched in cities including New York, the District, Dallas, Miami, Orlando, Raleigh, and Portland—where, for a second night, demonstrations turned violent. More rallies were planned through the weekend in scattered cities."

Though they have been largely peaceful, one of the protesters in Portland who faced tear gas and flash-bang grenades was shot in the early hours on Saturday.

Why Isn't Trump Junk? PDF Print E-mail

There ar a number of things that are not making sense about Donald Trump.  It seems that:

1- He can lie about everything without being called to task.

2. He can conduct criminal acts and not get charged with a crime.

For example: Why is he not arrested for doing business with Cuba during a US embargo?  Any other citizen would be arrested.   If so, as a convicted criminal would he still be eligible to be President?

3 - He seems to be trying to brand the Trump name and for him it doesn't seem to matter what people say as long as they say Trump.  Perhaps "branding" is his real weakness?  Perhaps then we should rebrand him with "Dump the Trump" or "The Trump is junk".

Bernie Sanders won a handful of concessions in the Democratic National Committee’s platform, with the party lining up behind his vision on the minimum wage, financial regulation and other issues.

draft version of the platform was released Friday, amid an ongoing battle to get Sanders to end his presidential campaign and endorse presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton

The platform explicitly calls for a $15 minimum wage, a position long espoused by Sanders.

"Democrats believe that the current minimum wage is a starvation wage and must be increased to a living wage," the text reads.

Donald Trump’s first major staff selection since securing the Republican nomination, national finance chairman Steven Mnuchin, co-founded and manages the hedge fund Dune Capital. Not only did he make partner at Goldman Sachs, so did his father in the 1960s. With over 30 years of experience at the top levels of finance, Mnuchin was present for every recent major banking innovation, including those that brought the country to the brink of economic collapse.

American Power Under Challenge Masters of Mankind (Part 1)
By Noam Chomsky

This piece, the first of two parts, is excerpted from Noam Chomsky’s new book, Who Rules the World?politan Books.  Part 2 will be posted on Tuesday morning.

When we ask “Who rules the world?” we commonly adopt the standard convention that the actors in world affairs are states, primarily the great powers, and we consider their decisions and the relations among them. That is not wrong. But we would do well to keep in mind that this level of abstraction can also be highly misleading.
