something's rotten in the philosophy of war

PEJ News
-- janine bandcroft --  i think there's more going on than a cartoon, i really do. i think it's a trap.

the cartoon is merely a pawn in the game. we know there are plans to invade iran or syrja sometime this summer, it's good for business, and we know that war is only acceptable if we have a clearly defined enemy. the cartoon, apparently (i haven't seen it) creates the climate necessary to launch the invasion - we're encouraged to think (again) that muslim peoples are irrational and reactionary, we're encouraged to stifle the media's voice and discourage ourselves from making our own decisions and, for some odd reason, we're meant to feel some disdain towards the danes.

canada has anti-hate laws and, in accordance perhaps, the cbc has chosen not to show us the cartoon in question. i do appreciate canada's anti-hate laws, and certainly there are times when it's necessary to suppress material that incites such feelings. but the cbc didn't create the questionable material, and i feel their job is to present information in a mature manner, and allow us to make up our own minds about it. as a teacher, i understand that material can be presented in various ways, and i think cbc could offer the cartoon in question along with a balanced discussion of its history, its meaning, its creators, and its impact. i have faith that we humans can reach rational and peaceful conclusions, if we?re given information in a mature and informative manner.

my iranian friend, mehdi, offered up the following links in relation to the cartoon story. i haven?t checked them all out, but i trust mehdi?s judgement, and i?ll assume you?re grown up and capable of discerning the truth from the lies ? all by yourself:
