The American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Union of Concerned Scientists have just released a major report on Weapons in Space which makes two key points: 1) only ASAT (anti-satellite) weapons will be cost-effective space weapons for the next several decades, and 2) US deployment of ASAT weapons could easily be duplicated by other nations, creating a major threat to strategic stability and an arms race in space.
