Warm Socks Delivered on Streets
McGregor Socks Donates another 7,560 Pairs – Total Nearly 50,000 Pairs

On Tuesday, December 18 @ 2 pm, members of Congregation Emanu-El who arranged the donation, will be joined by CARTS Outreach (Christian Actions Reflecting the Spirit) to distribute socks, hot coffee and lots of love to people on the streets of Victoria who are without homes. The street walk will begin at Spirit Square by Victoria City Hall, under the overhang near the drinking water fountain.

The socks are part of the latest generous gift from McGregor Socks (Toronto) now totalling almost 50,000 pairs since 2007, thanks to a partnership begun by Avodah, the social action group of Congregation Emanu-El. Shipping of this generous gift was sponsored by La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries.

All 7,560 pairs of socks will be given away to people who are homeless and at risk by dozens of local social service agencies (list below) that work together to help people who are or have been homeless. What a great way to celebrate Victoria’s generous community spirit and multi-faith cooperation.

Congregation Emanu-El consists of a diverse group of 190 families who come together to create a dynamic and spiritual expression of Jewish life. It’s a place of love and connection where deep friendships are forged and nourished. We believe in connecting people to one another and to their Jewish roots and traditions, as well as nourishing feelings of connectedness, security and belonging within the entire capital community.Avodah is Congregation Emanu-El’s social action group, created to serve those in most need in Victoria, particularly poor and homeless youth, adults and families.

CARTS is a faith-based, volunteer-driven, federally registered charity founded in 2002, which ministers to those on the streets of Victoria. CARTS provides love, respect, a meal, and clothing every Sunday evening to anyone in need on the streets of downtown Victoria. CARTS believes that everyone deserves to be fed, embraced, and treated with dignity and non-judgmental respect. Our passion is to reach out to others in love and with compassion, following in the footsteps of Jesus.

The Victoria Cool Aid Society is helping to build homes and a better community through compassionate people who provide a variety of services that improve people’s lives, including: housing, health care, support, and emergency shelter. Cool Aid focuses its services for adults who are homeless or in need of help and provides assistance to over 10,000 individuals every year.
